The Loss of Inflection Database is a digital repository of examples of language change from 50 languages, each involving the loss of inflectional contrasts within paradigms. Users may filter records by a broad range of parameters to find examples meeting particular criteria, or navigate through a timeline of changes to explore the historical development of individual languages and families.
The database was created for the project Loss of Inflection, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under grant number AH/N00163X/1. This support is gratefully acknowledged. We are also grateful to Hans-Olav Enger, Alexander Krasovitsky, Felicity Meakins, and Nina Sumbatova, for contributing their time and expertise in collecting and analysing data from Scandinavian, Slavic, Australian and Caucasian languages, and to Oliver Bond and Greville Corbett for their help with the design of the database.

The dataset on which this web application is based can be downloaded in full via Zenodo.
The data will be exported as csv files. Please note that there is a known issue with viewing csv files in Microsoft Excel on a mac, which will cause special characters to be rendered incorrectly. We therefore recommend using alternative software such as table tool.
